The Board of Directors of Pathways to Freedom Ministries

Biography of Nancy Hynes - Executive Director

Nancy was born in Halifax NS and has been married to her husband David since 1984. They have 3 sons, Chris, Mark and Kevin. Nancy grew up with a Christian mom and a father not interested in organized religion. Her father, however, modeled an incredible servant heart, something that Nancy has also embraced. After being involved in church for the duration of her childhood, she chose to pull away from this part of her life.

Life changed dramatically in 2001 when through difficult circumstances in her life and marriage, Nancy made a new commitment to follow Jesus. She began attending Rock Church in Lower Sackville. She says, "Early in my spiritual walk I determined that I would serve HIM and Love HIM with my all my heart, mind and soul." Nancy constantly seeks God and asks to reveal way she can give back even a little of what He had given through forgiveness, grace and mercy.

Nancy became involved in an evangelistic program called "ALPHA" shortly after her new commitment to the Lord. Alpha teaches the basics of Christianity. She went from taking the course to helping in it and finally to teaching it alongside another leader. The skills she gained by being involved with Alpha have stayed with her today especially with this new ministry. Serving at various events in her home church and around the city is part of Nancy's passion. Her pastors say that she is someone that can be called on to serve in whatever capacity is needed. An area close to Nancy's heart is unity in the body of Christ. Working with Alpha and now within Prison Ministry she sees God's perfect plan for us as believers and the church. Her observation, "So many people from different Christian church backgrounds can bring amazing things to the table when we work together."

With her eyes wide open she continues to see ways that God has empowered and equipped her to run the ministry He has given her. Nancy has a natural curiosity and love of people. This enables her to act like a "journalist" on a story, getting to know people and make connections. It is no surprise that in 2007 when God laid it on her heart to start a prison ministry, matching inmates and ex-offenders to Christian mentors, she accepted the challenge. After saying yes to the Lord, He continued to impress on her the needs of both men and women currently incarcerated federally and provincially. She is always ready to tell anyone that without Him she would be unable to accomplish anything. It is in His will and by His power.

Her love for the Lord, passion for prisoners and vision to see the Glory of God in our corrections institutions grows daily. Nancy says, "I know that Jesus, through the Holy Spirit can change anyone. He changed me, continues to grow me and shape this ministry into what HE wants it to be. I will continue to seek and follow Him for His perfect will.

To him be all the glory, honour and praise

Biography of Bob George - Treasurer and Mentor

I am a Nova Scotia native, and have lived in other cities across our great nation. I am the elder of two children, in a family of non-Christians. I am married to my amazing wife, Sherri; who passionately loves the Lord, and we have four beautiful daughters Tiffiany, Tanisha, Paige, and Brianna. Growing up, I was raised Catholic and attended catechism classes because I had to. Church was rarely attended.

Before dedicating my life to the Lord I was a mess. Poor choices, failed relationships, alcoholism, drug use. I lived an angry and resentful existence. I have experienced what is like to be afflicted with mental illness, as well as in-patient status in alcohol rehabs, mental healthcare facilities, and other types of institutions. Eventually, I ended up in a dark place, at rock bottom so to speak. I was a prisoner trapped within myself, who felt hopeless with no desire to carry on.

Those who know me now refer to me as the "walking miracle". I knew that despite the many times of trying things on my own, I had to let go, and let God. The Lord wanted to take control and begin the healing of a broken man. It has been hard to give Him the control, as I wanted things to happen in my timing. As the old saying goes, patience is a virtue. I learned I had to take things as they came, deal with the present, let the past go, and not fret on the future. The Lord has delivered me from many demons. Life is never easy, there are always pitfalls. He has put good people in my life, folks who live right, do right, and seek Him with a passion. I can see things with a clear mind, and apply proper principles to deal with situations out of my control.

I now live a wonderful existence. An existence with a calling attached to it. An existence filled with a fervent desire to serve Him. The Lord wants me to help others who feel like they deserve to be where life has them, out of options, out of time, at the end of the line. I firmly believe that he has worked in me so that he can use me as a means to help others, a testimony of the works he is capable of.

I belong to an amazing church (Rock Church) where I serve and attend faithfully. I am part of an amazing ministry. God is good, all the time!

Biography of Jim Doucette. - Board Member

My name is Jim Doucette. I have been married to my wonderful wife Bev for 29 years and we have raised 4 children. I grew up in Spryfield and lived there for 22 years and have lived the past 32 years in Lower Sackville. At the age of 23, during Billy Graham's visit to the Metro Centre, I discovered that the Creator of the whole world loved me and He sent His Son Jesus; who died on the cross, that my sins can be forgiven. I was given a new start in life. My whole life changed, from having no meaning, purpose or hope, to having real meaning, great purpose and a real hope.

I have been involved since then in various capacities with my home church, teaching Sunday School, Small group - home groups, leader on the Alpha Program. When my kids were young I was involved in coaching kids' baseball. People say that I have a great heart for God and I am very good at mentoring new Christians.

My involvement as a board member on Pathways To Freedom Ministries, is another small way to assist others to discover Gods love for themselves.
